Greta Thunberg: Where is She Now?

In 2018, at just 14 years old, Swedish citizen Greta Thunberg made waves across the world for her environmental activist endeavors. Thunberg gained popularity after introducing Fridays for Future, a series of school strikes to demand action against climate change. The protest eventually garnered global popularity, with students from all over the globe, including the United States, United Kingdom, and France, taking part as well.
As this international movement grew, so did Thurnberg's influence. Greta eventually sought out a greater stage for more than just her Friday’s protest. In 2019, Thunbergs made her appearance at the New York United Nations climate event, having traveled there on an emissions free yacht. The media coined young people’s mass action on behalf of climate change "The Greta Effect”.
However Thunberg’s continuing advocacy work since 2020 has failed to garner the same international attention. As of 2022, Thunberg has used her platform to promote activism on behalf of both environmental issues and human rights. She has spoken openly against the Russian invasion of Ukraine, expressed her support of Palestine during the Israel-Hamas War, and advocated for the people in Gaza. In June 2025, she joined a group of activists aboard an aid ship headed to the Gaza Strip. However, following the Israeli seizure of the vessel, Thunberg was taken into custody and then deported.
This has not stopped Thunberg and her activism. She continued to participate in the Global Sumud Flotilla in order to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. In September 2025, Greta spoke with the Times News on her mission to Gaza, highlighting her determination to continue her mission to peacefully deliver aid to the people of Palestine.
Although Thunberg first took the world’s stage seven years ago, her movement and her passion continues to shine through. Her work on behalf of both environmental justice and human rights advocacy is a reminder of the impact young activists can have.
